3 DAYS / 2 NIGHTS (PREMIUM) - Price per Person 305 Dollars
10:30AM We meet at the office Altitude Uyuni. (Corner Sucre and Peru Streets).
The Salar de Uyuni – Salt Flats is one of the harshest environments on this amazing planet. It is high, very cold, windy, dry and full of corrosive salt. The desert areas are barren, dry, colourful and dusty. It is one incredible adventure! And one we have worked hard to deliver to you the best it has to offer.
Salar de Uyuni will deliver one of the most mind blowing experiences you could imagine. Be warned though, as wonderful as the environment landscape and experience is, it is remote. So the facilities and services reflect the environment, it is raw, things are not as reliable or as comfortable as you may expect these tours to be. This is a true frontier, it is stunningly beautiful, without all the trimmings.
With the above in mind Altitude Adventures have explored all available options, we have found the best drivers, guides, accommodations, the best of what is available. We regularly monitor our operators, we pay a bit more to get the best from them. When travelling with these conditions minimising any setbacks is best. No guarantees but we guarantee to do our best.
We will provide you with the best food and accommodation options that are available. The salt and terrain put strain on vehicles so breakdowns are common. The drivers have been doing this for years so they know their vehicles and know how to fix problems on the go. If you want an adventure the Salt Flats will certainly deliver one hell of an experience.
So at our meeting point we will give you a brief explanation of our itinerary and the amazing things you will see over the following 3 days. Once we are packed will head off on this incredible expedition.
At 11:00 am we hit the road aboard our 4x4 drive to visit the famed Train Cementery, old locomotives from Bolivia’s bygone past. Here lays train 66 made famous by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. These infamous outlaws robbed this train in 1908. Spend time to climb the ruins of trains in rather unique playground.
From the cementery we make our way to the village of Colchani, complete with a visit to salt miners workshop experience the authentic rustic way of salt production. It’s just a short stop as from here we make our way to Salar de Uyuni, the Salt Flats. The largest and widest stretches of white you will see in your life. This landscape looks like it is of another world. Salt mining is prevalent, the pyramids of salt look amazing. The area has large holes where the water from underneath of this death lake still flows under pressure. Interestingly the salt layer you drive on “floats” on a rich salt lake.
The wilderness of the world's largest salt is also one of the largest reservoirs of lithium. This wonder of nature will find the holes in the layer salt that serve as natural vents for underground rivers even they run under the subsalt also find petrified salt crystals that are hidden in places that you can only find on on this tour, the crystals are in abundance.
This tour will take you to the only hotel inside the Salt Flats, a hotel built from the only construction material available in the region, Salt. Plenty of opportunities to take the type of photos that the salt flats have become famous for. Lunch is provided
We continue our journey toward Tunupa Volcano home to hundreds of flamingos that inhabit this region, birds that are currently endangered.
It's time for lunch and we will in one of the most beautiful places in the Salar Isla Incahuasi or Fish Island home of giant cactus.
The tour offers many opportunities for photos. Crystalized salt creates natural patterns, a natural geometry you will recognize on the wings of butterflys, turtle shells and plants cells structures.
The active Volcano Thunupa at 5400 sits at a safe distance to get some great photos.
From here we head west to the village with a Salt Hostel. Typical accommodations for this remote area. Arriving there you will enjoy some hot coffee or chocolate, its cold so rug up. We will settle to witness an incredible memorable sunset.
ACCOMMODATION: (salt hostel - private toilets subject to availability)
Early start 8:00 am, pack you gear, check to make sure you have everything as we won’t be returning this way, once packed we will fill you with a hearty hot breakfast.
Today we visit The Galaxies Cave, Colcha K is a small remote village. Moving onto Julaka to reach the picturesque village of San Agustin, where we will stop for refreshments, rest and water and snacks.
We continue towards the junction of Alota to visit the Valley of Rocks from which you can see in the distance the Volcan Ollague that is still active and take a detour towards the Chiarkota, Ramaditas and Laguna Hedionda lagoons.
Today we visit the Chiguana desert located at the south side of Uyuni salt flats. More to the south you will visit the stone tree the featured in the visually stunning movie The Fall.
As we make our way to the Andean Lagoons we will pass dormant and semi active volcanoes that surround the Chiguana Desert, Volcano Ollague at 5840 meters has steam that shoots from its side. Some nice opportunities for photos.
Andean lagoons are full of flamingos. This volcanic region feeds the lakes with sulphur that in turn feeds an algae that feeds the flamingos and colours them pink. The landscapes are impressive, snow caped volcanos reflect off the rich red lake. Photographer’s paradise!
Around 3 pm we make our way to the welcome comfort of Hotel Taika desert (birdseye). A beautiful desert setting that is that so interestingly unique. Great place to recover and relax in the heart of Desert Siloli.

Our first stop is Salvador Dali Desert, given its names as the landscape colours “melt” together, it looks delicious. From here we head to The Green Lake, a toxic copper lake at the base of volcano Licancabur some 6000 m high, the copper leaches into the lake causing a spooky white green color of the lake.
Today we cross the desert to reach Siloli tree stone towards Laguna Colorada enjoy the geysers that exist in this volcanic region.
We will have time for a brief dip in the hot springs, to continue our journey to Laguna Verde. From this point we start our journey back through the town of Villa Mar alota coming to San Cristobal where we will have a short break coming to Uyuni around 18 hours.
